Say Hello To Neon Hues!

2 May

Since the 1980’s, the fashion world has watched the neon trend go in and out of style, depending on the season. Fortunately for you bold-color lovers out there, the trend is back in full force for this spring and summer season. This style is great because there are so many fun and unique ways to encompass it, and every fashionista can enjoy it. Here are a couple of tips.

Start Color-Blocking

This term has left the lips of many fashion experts, but what is it exactly? It’s simply wearing solid blocks of color—preferably neon. Color-blocking your wardrobe will make you look fresh, yet stylish. For instance, you can rock a neon pink blazer with a white blouse and black pants. If you’re feeling especially daring, you can have fun with layering neon on neon. Try sporting a bright pair of purple jeans with a neon yellow belt or wear a punchy green tank with a bright orange cardigan. You will turn heads and be lauded for your style. Fashion experts recommend wearing no more than three different colors. However, if you’re a loud-color-wearing newbie, start small and then work you’re way up to looking like a color-blocking pro.

Brightly-colored shoes like these from Yoki Shoes is a great first step to take into the neon color trend.

Wear Neon Accessories

In addition to wearing shoes that make a statement, accessories can enhance your look. Flaunt a wonderfully bright-colored handbag, especially since they are so popular this season. The most noted hues include bright red, purple, cobalt blue, tangerine, lime green and bubblegum pink. Lastly, you can experiment with fun, neon-colored nail polish or adorn your wrist with a vibrant bracelet.

Are you ready to push those drab, past-season pieces to the back of your closet and break out the color?

Spring and Summer Fashion: 3 Prints That Add Pizzazz To A Casual Outfit

30 Apr

At this year’s major spring runways, eye-popping, playful prints were all the rage. However, there were three types of styles that stood out and are trending this season: floral, geometric shapes and animal prints.

Floral

These floral prints go great with a pair of jeans or a flowing skirt.

The floral pattern has made its transition from clothing to shoes—heels, loafers and flats in particular. A floral shoe is a fantastic way to add a touch of femininity to an ensemble without overdoing it. Wearing floral heels is a great way to have that girly look—even if you’re wearing neutral colors. It’s also an easy way to spruce up a casual outfit, like when you wear skinny jeans with a t-shirt.

Geometric Shapes

Geometrical prints, especially stripes, are huge this season. Stripes—usually reserved for work clothes—adds a traditionally elegance to your casual outfit. Vertical, horizontal and even diagonal stripes are especially trendy. Other geometrical prints, such as zigzags, triangles and polka dots, are also chic this spring and summer season.

These striped, plaid loafers are bright in color and add a unique style to your outfit.

Animal Prints

Animal prints are always in style, and these will be great to wear on a warm night on the town!

Leopard, snakeskin and zebra prints have always been popular, but there are some new styles making noise this season: shoes with full images of tigers, cats, lizards and even sea creatures on them. But the animal pattern that seemed to take on a life of its own on the runways was the bird print. Inspired by freedom and open wilderness, this happy-go-lucky print will allow fashionistas to channel their inner free spirit while looking uniquely stylish. But if you’re not ready to make the leap into tigers, lizards and birds, oh my, leopard print is always a good starting point. Animal prints make regular jeans pop, and adds sizzle to a causal spring and summer dress.

March Madness: Celebs Go Toe-to-Toe at the Oscars

31 Mar

Tired of brackets and basketballs.  Yoki has a different approach on March Madness!

In the sports world, March Madness is a phenomenon that grips the national athletic psyche each year, as talented teams duke it out to determine who will be the national champions of college basketball.

In the fashion world, March Madness has a slightly different connotation.

It’s that exciting time before spring when celebrities duke it out for the best dressed title going into the upcoming season.  The Oscars is like basketball’s championship game, as it will determine who comes out a winner and who needs to rethink their fashion game plan.

The 2012 Oscars offered a thrilling head-to-head matchup, as many contenders put their best foot forward (in some stunning shoes, I might add) and were in it to win that prestigious best dressed title.

Making a splash in the line-up was best actress nominee Jessica Chastain, who looked stunning in her black Alexander McQueen gown with golden prints. The redheaded beauty completed her look with Harry Winston jewels. Jennifer Lopez was another fashion threat. The star looked jaw-dropping in her Zuhair Murad figure-hugging gown with a plunging neckline.

While there were many strong contenders, the battle for best dressed came down to just two competitors – Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman.

Williams’ coral, strapless, tiered Louis Vuitton gown was a slam-dunk. The “My Week with Marilyn” star kept her look simple, opting for a necklace and no earrings with her pixie hair do. While Williams went for a girlie look, Portman went vintage in a red Dior Haute Couture dress from Rare Vintage collection. She completed the ensemble with Dior shoes, a Charlotte Olympia bag and Harry Winston jewels.

Which lady in red do you think deserves the best dressed trophy?

The Four Hottest Hues for Spring 2012 and How to Rock Them

24 Feb

True fashionistas know it is never too early to start preparing their wardrobes for the upcoming spring season, even if that pesky, little groundhog did see his shadow earlier this month. One of the easiest ways to ramp up your wardrobe is by following the hottest color trends for spring. Just snag a couple of pieces drenched in the four colors below, and you’ll be good to go!

Take it up a notch with Tangerine Tango

Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries for 50 years, recently announced that Tangerine Tango is the color of the year for 2012. This spirited reddish orange hue exudes energy and confidence. Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute Leatrice Eiseman said, “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

A major plus of this sexy shade is that it is flattering on most skin tones. So once the warm weather rolls around, try rocking a Tangerine Tango dress or cute top. This bright color will also go hand in hand with the sun and the sand at the beach, so look for it in a bikini or cover up. If you’re worried this color might be too bold for your particular style, start small by sporting a Tangerine Tango accessory or nail polish.

Try a Hint of Mint

As exhibited in New York’s Fashion Week, pastel colors are going to be huge this season, with mint being the most popular of this category. This reserved shade is a blend of blue and green, which gives off a super cool air of nonchalance. Mint is great for accessorizing, such as in a cute handbag or necklace. Bonus: Mint pairs well with many colors, especially bright ones like teal, pink and yellow.

Beat the Winter Blues with Citron Yellow

Citron yellow, which borders on fluorescent, is a super bold shade sure to brighten up your look. Is wearing this shade of yellow the closest you’ve gotten to being around actual sunlight in awhile? Don’t sweat it – the beauty of this color is that it makes even the palest skin instantly appear tanner.

The most recent celeb to rock this trend was model Amber Rose. The 28-year-old wore a one-shouldered, yellow Versace gown at the Grammys, which stood out in the sea of black and white dresses. Ironically, she was at the show supporting boyfriend Wiz Khalifa, who was nominated for Best Rap Performance for his song “Black and Yellow.”

Wear Kelly Green to Really Make a Scene

This bright green, eye-catching shade is predicted to be super popular this year. One of the first celebrities to rock this year’s new trend is Emily Blunt. The actress wore a stunning, kelly green Oscar de la Renta gown to the SAG Awards at the end of January, completing the chic look with sparkling bangles and a matching clutch.

Kelly green is also a great color for the latest shoes this season. You can find it in Yoki’s new spring-summer line. Try the color out in the new “Brenda” style, which is a flat sandal adorned with an adorable bow. Or if you want to be over-the-top trendy, invest in the “Mogan” style – a thick heeled platform shoe incorporating both Kelly green and yellow. Two trends for the price of one!

Now you’re in the loop on the four hottest hues of 2012. What are you waiting for? Get shopping!
